Wisconsin County Police Association (WCPA) Changes Name

The County Law Enforcement Professionals of Wisconsin has a 71-year history of advancing the interests of county law enforcement professionals through charitable contributions, educational opportunities, and legislative advocacy.

The Association was founded on July 18, 1944 , under the name of the Wisconsin County Police Association and Police Radio Operators Association,.  The name was changed to the Wisconsin County Police Association in 1971.  In 2015, the name was changed to the County Law Enforcement Professionals of Wisconsin.

The Association’s decision to change the name to the County Law Enforcement Professionals of Wisconsin is, in part, a move to more fully reflect the variety of public safety roles the association’s membership represents across the state. The change also signifies the association's recommitment to their work and mission of fostering the interests of county law enforcement through charitable contributions, education, recognition of individuals through scholarships and awards, and providing member benefits while advocating for laws that will enhance the effectiveness of public safety in the state.

Since its founding, the County Law Enforcement Professionals of Wisconsin has displayed a commitment to giving back to the communities in which their members live and work with the goal of fostering safe and vibrant neighborhoods. The Association works to support their members not only in their communities but also by offering opportunities to further their education and by recognizing their heroic and unselfish acts of bravery in the face of stressful circumstances.

The Association additionally strives to maintain a strong and visible presence in the state capitol to advocate for laws that will protect the welfare of their members and enhance the effectiveness of public safety in all communities across the state.

Over time, the association’s membership has grown to approximately 3,500 full time members representing nearly every county in the state. Membership in the association is free to any employee of a Sheriff’s Office in the State of Wisconsin. As the County Law Enforcement Professionals of Wisconsin, the association will continue to advance the interests of their members while protecting and promoting public safety in the state.
